Why the enemy attacks

Daily Devotionals x. The risk is exaggerated. God loves you. He would surely not punish you as you fear. The downside is overstated. In our context, he whispers that we can always repent later.

No one will know. No one will be hurt. Or, they deserve what they get. Or, they started this. He offers a shortcut to your desires. No more rules for you. The popularity, or money, or physical satisfaction, or fame you want. Especially when no one will get hurt, least of all yourself. Satan is always happy to help you do that. Think about the last time you experienced significant temptation.

Did the enemy not start with something you thought you wanted or needed? If you went this other way, you could have what you wanted now. Is this not the perennial strategy behind all temptation?

First: remember that Satan hates you. Because he hates your Father. The closer to home, the better. There is a war going on between God and the devil, and you are on the front lines.

Everything Satan puts into your head is designed to destroy you. No matter how much it appears to meet your need and minimize the downside right now. Every time you are tempted, know that the tempter wants to destroy you. If only I were so decisive with the serpent who lives in my mind and my world.

How do we kill him? Second: see the end from the beginning. To use Dr. God has graciously given us everything we need to withstand attacks from the enemy. God has also empowered us to fight back with the sword of the Spirit. The sword of the Spirit, meaning the word of God, is our greatest weapon against the enemy.

Each time the enemy tried to tempt Jesus in Matthew Jesus fought back with the word of God. Knowing the Bible is not only for pastors and theologians. That Bible on your nightstand or Bible app on your phone has way more power than we give it credit.

If we want to live victorious in the face of spiritual warfare, we better open our bibles. His primary goal is to distance us from God.

Sometimes, many times, he uses the good and comfortable in this world to distance us from God. Because the farther away we are from God, the less power we have over spiritual warfare. Jesus defeated the enemy on Calvary. He was defeated then, and he is still defeated now. There is no need to fear an already defeated enemy. He may try to puff himself up to scare you, but always remember these powerful words of John:.

Now, I want to share five ways the enemy attacks:. Most times you may not be able to do anything about this, but simply being aware of your vulnerability helps tremendously. You know exactly where they are coming from and can send up a quick prayer for strength and protection. The enemy has no chance of winning when up against the power of God.
